GBV Short Film
Competition
From 10 May to 4 June 2021, the Limpopo International Film Festival hosted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Short Film Competition aimed at using the power of storytelling to raise awareness, educate communities, and drive meaningful conversations around the urgent issue of GBV.
The competition provided a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to creatively engage with the theme of GBV through compelling short films that reflected the lived experiences, challenges, and resilience of survivors. Participants from across the province were encouraged to submit original short films that addressed the causes, consequences, and solutions related to gender-based violence in society.
In addition to showcasing cinematic talent, the initiative also served as a social advocacy tool—amplifying voices that are often silenced, challenging harmful norms, and promoting healing and change through visual storytelling.
By aligning the creative arts with a critical social issue, the Limpopo International Film Festival reaffirmed its commitment to using film as a medium for education, empowerment, and transformation, particularly within vulnerable communities.
