In 2023, LIFF addressed the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence, which has reached epidemic proportions in South Africa. The festival engaged young filmmakers in creating short films aimed at raising awareness about this critical problem. This initiative garnered substantial support from emerging filmmakers and proved highly successful in educating the community about this widespread issue.
